Drie nieuwe artiesten doen mee aan de viering van het 25-jarig jubileum van Pokémon: Vince Staples, Cyn en ZHU. Van Vince Staples en Cyn staan er nieuwe nummers op Pokémon 25: The Red EP, die vandaag is uitgebracht. In navolging van de lange traditie van dubbele releases die zo kenmerkend is voor de hoofdserie Pokémon-videospellen en waarbij twee spellen in nuances van elkaar verschillen, en als een eerbetoon aan de originele videospellen Pokémon Red en Pokémon Blue verschijnt later deze maand Pokémon 25: The Blue EP . Deze ep bevat remixen van nummers van ZHU op The Red EP. Deze artiest met GRAMMY-nominatie heeft net zijn derde album DREAMLAND 2021 uitgebracht en heeft zes avonden gespeeld in het uitverkochte openluchtamfitheater Red Rocks in Colorado.
Op het sfeervolle en melodische 'Got 'Em' treedt Vince Staples de uitdagingen van het leven zonder aarzeling tegemoet. Hierbij ontleent hij inspiratie aan de iconische Pokémon Mew en Raichu. Staples heeft onlangs zijn gelijknamige, vierde album uitgebracht. Dit is nu verkrijgbaar bij Blacksmith Recordings/Motown Records. Deze lp heeft positieve reviews gekregen van onder meer Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR Music en NME en kwam als beste rapalbum binnen op plaats 21 in de Billboard 200. Daarnaast werkt A momenteel voor Netflix aan zijn dramady The Vince Staples Show.
"Ik ben altijd al een fan van Pokémon geweest. Ik vond het dus heel bijzonder om mee te mogen doen aan de viering van het 25-jarig jubileum", aldus Vince Staples. "Ik kan niet wachten tot mensen 'Got 'Em' kunnen beluisteren en ik hoop dat de fans het nummer mooi vinden, vooral degenen die net zoals ik opgegroeid zijn met Pokémon."
Cyn, die net als Katy Perry onder contract staat bij het Unsub Records en onlangs twee nummers voor de soundtrack van de met een Oscar onderscheiden film Promising Young Woman heeft geleverd, presenteert met 'Wonderful' een zinderend nummer dat in het teken staat van vriendschap en levensvreugde.
Cyn : "Ik vind het geweldig om met 'Wonderful' een van mijn meest favoriete nummers uit te kunnen brengen ter gelegenheid van 25 jaar Pokémon! Dit nummer is speciaal voor mij omdat het over groeipijnen gaat en het hiervan tegelijkertijd een bevallige en prachtige reis van maakt. Eieren komen uit wanneer de tijd rijp is. Met andere woorden: wanneer ze er klaar voor zijn. Toen ik dit nummer schreef, was mijn pasgeboren baby in de kamer. Als ik ernaar luister, hoor je echt mijn aankomende moederschap. Het zal altijd een speciale betekenis voor mij hebben."

Het eerste nummer op The Red EP is 'Take It Home', een nummer van BRIT Award-winnaar Mabel. Het magazine PAPER schreef "zeggen dat het swingt is echt een understatement…'Take It Home' zit vol fonkelende en energieke beats." Het magazine People merkte over de officiële video op dat het "de ster vindt die Jigglypuff volgt naar een sprookjesachtige droomwereld vol kleurrijke ensembles en een popsterrenchoreografie."
De nummers van The Red EP verschijnen op het komende verzamelalbum P25 Music , dat dit najaar door Capitol Records uitgebracht zal worden als onderdeel van een groots, één jaar durend muziekspektakel van The Pokémon Company International in samenwerking met Universal Music Group. De remixen van ZHU komen op de digitale versie van het album. Vince Staples, Cyn en ZHU voegen zich bij P25-artiesten Katy Perry, Post Malone, J Balvin en Mabel.

About Vince Staples
Ever since Vince Staples introduced himself to the hip-hop world in 2014, he’s been known as a documentarian, filing first-person accounts of his teenage and 20-something days in Long Beach, California over booming beats that seesaw from edgy to spirited. Generally a private person, friends would often tell Vince that they learn new information about him through his music, encouraging him to reveal even more about himself. When he began to dig in and create his forthcoming album, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2018 album FM!, the award-winning rhymer took that into consideration. The result is Vince Staples, a tight project entirely produced by Kenny Beats. The self-titled 10-track album delves not only into his upbringing in Long Beach, but his psyche as he learns to cope with his yesterdays and strides toward new tomorrows, picking others up along the way. ZHU is ready to move again. Most of his third album, DREAMLAND 2021, was made at home during quarantine, but as the GRAMMY-nominated musician and producer crafted the new set’s grimy techno and sweaty house tracks, he imagined the record as the score to a world starting to spin back into motion. He celebrated its release with an unprecedented sold-out, six-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. ZHU was honored with a Best Dance Recording nomination at the 2014 GRAMMYs for his breakout hit “Faded.” His debut album GENERATIONWHY topped Billboard's Dance/Electronic albums chart and landed on the Billboard 200, and he’s had dozens of tracks hit the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
