May 1, 2026 - The English Schools' Football Association, in partnership with The Pokémon Company International, is proud to announce the return of the Pokémon Primary Schools’ Cup for its fourth year. The prestigious National Finals will take place at the iconic Stoke City FC Stadium on May 15th 2026.
Primary school teams from across England will descend on Stoke-on-Trent to compete for national glory in the largest primary-aged schools’ cup competition in the country. This year, more than 5,000 school teams and over 50,000 children participated in matches across England, highlighting the scale and impact of this remarkable tournament.
The competition features three categories: the U11 Schools’ Cup, the U11 Schools’ Cup for Girls, and the U11 Small Schools’ Cup. Teams have progressed through three competitive rounds, including early stages, quarter-finals and semi-finals. The top 24 teams have earned their place in the National Finals, where champions will be crowned on May 15th.
Reaching the National Finals represents a significant achievement for all involved. For many pupils, the experience becomes a treasured memory of their primary school journey. Schools from across the country will travel to support their teams, creating an electric atmosphere as young players showcase their talent and determination.
The event promises to be a celebration both on and off the pitch, with special appearances from Pikachu.
The Pokémon Primary Schools’ Cup continues to champion the core values outlined in the ESFA’s “15 Benefits of Schools’ Football.” These include, but are not limited to, providing opportunities to develop positive relationships, helping children to feel they are part of a team, encouraging teamwork and teaching respect.
This unique partnership between the ESFA and Pokémon ensures that the competition not only provides a high-quality footballing experience but also supports the personal development and well-being of young players across the country.
“The Pokémon Primary Schools’ Cup Finals are some of the most joyous events in the ESFA’s National Finals calendar. It is a fast-paced event full of noise, excitement, fun and laughter as primary school children from across England compete to be crowned National Champions. For the vast majority, this will be the first time that these keen footballers have had the opportunity to play at an EFL Championship ground on a fantastic pitch. Seeing them run out of the tunnel is a magical moment. The arrival of Pikachu visibly – and audibly – thrills players and adults alike, and we are immensely grateful to our partners, Pokémon, for supporting the ESFA’s primary school activity,” said Andrea Chilton, ESFA Chief Executive.
“We’re incredibly excited to be continuing our partnership with the ESFA to bring the Pokémon Primary Schools Cup Finals to Stoke City Football Club, creating a day where energy, teamwork and fun come together in a truly special way. This event is all about celebrating young players, giving them the chance to shine, build confidence and enjoy the game alongside their friends. We can’t wait to see the smiles, sportsmanship and unforgettable moments the finals will bring, which is made possible by the dedication and support of coaches, teachers and parents,” said Peter Murphy, Sr. Director, Marketing, EMEA and DMS, The Pokémon Company International.
